The Ethiopian agricultural authority (EAA), as a federal Agricultural regulatory authority, was established in 2021 by federal parliament proclamation no. 1263/2021 entitled “a proclamation to provide for the definition of the powers and duties of the executive organs of the federal democratic republic of Ethiopia” under its 45th article. Its Power and role, based of article 11 of the proclamation No. 1263/2021, is delineated by council of Ministers regulation No.
509/2022. EAA regulatory activities focus on major products and services namely, Agricultural technologies, Agricultural inputs, Agricultural Products and Agricultural Services as they are
defined under the regulation No. 509/2022. Its regulatory role is to ensure those products and service are standardized, registered and run by a person issued with competency of certificate.
To confirm whether agricultural products and services comply with performance/efficacy, quality, health and safety standards, it conducts a series of inspections and takes regulatory measures as needed.
